It is reported that China has huge potential of energy conservation and emission reduction of civil architecture.

Green Book considered that China had huge potential of energy conservation and emission reduction of civil architecture.
Green Book introduced that China whose newly increased covered area reached up to 1.8 billion-2 billion m2 each year was the largest construction market around the world. At present, building energy consumption had account for 27.5% of total energy consumption of the whole country. On July23, 2008, the State Council approved Civil Architecture Energy Conservation Regulations. Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development of the People’s Republic of China put forward the objective of building energy conservation that the proportion of national cities and towns newly-built buildings’ carrying out mandatory standard of energy conservation shall reach over 95% by the end of 2010, besides, in “Eleventh Five-Year” period, the heating metering and energy conservation reform shall be completed for 150 million m2 in total for residential architecture in north heating areas, 110 million tons of standard coal shall be saved, of which, 70 million tons of standard coal were newly-built buildings, building energy conservation reform and operation management shall save 30 million tons of standard coal, energy-saving lighting appliance shall be popularized and applied to save 10.4 million tons of standard coal.
In addition, application area of renewable energy sources accounted for over 25% of covered area of newly-built buildings. Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development of the People’s Republic of China issued “Eleventh Five-Year” Urban Green Illumination Engineering Project Planning in July 2006, giving great impetus to green illumination engineering in urban illumination industry, which raised the objective that electricity shall be saved accumulatively for 25% from 2006 to 2010 on the basis of annual objective of urban illumination electricity conservation for 5% from the end of 2005.
